I am a writer, visual artist, yoga teacher, and professional designer. I have lived and practiced in Toronto, Canada, since the turn of the twenty-first century. I used to live on the coast. Both coasts in fact. I am bicoastal, and binational also—now pinned to a continental centre very far from the sea. But there are large lakes within sight. And a big city has a lot going for it. A big city has a lot to say for itself. I listen to the city, and sometimes I tell it to be quiet. It rarely is. Mostly it rumbles. If you listen carefully, you can hear it purring, deep down inside. Under all the surface sound, there is a great cat in the heart of the city.
